Since 1967 Israel has arrested hundreds of thousands of
Palestinian approximately (650 thousand), which consists about
20% of the Palestinian population in this area.
Numbers of prisoners in
Israeli jails
The number of prisoners in Israeli jails until now is 8800,
(6292) of them received salaries by
MODA this month distributed at 28 jails and other
detentions centers, in addition to that hundreds of them get
salaries by the Ministry of Finance because they are individuals
in the Palestinian Security Forces
and other Civil Jobs in the PNA,
the rest are new prisoners arrested on the earlier months their
procedures for getting their salaries are not finished yet. In
addition to those prisoners who were arrested recently and still
under interrogation and in investigation cells not paid yet.
The estimated amount of money being paid by the (PNA) to
detainees is 3 million $
Number of prisoners before
the beginning of al-Aqsa Intifada
- 578
(6.7%)
of prisoners who were arrested before the beginning of the al-Aqsa
Intifada are still in custody, distributed as shown in the
following table:

- 369
(4.2%) of these prisoners have been detained prior to
the Oslo Accords.

of these prioners were arrested following the signing of the
Oslo Accords and before the beginning of the al-Aqsa Intifada.

Child prisoners in
numbers:
Nearly
4000 Palestinian child have been arrested since the
outbreak of Al-Aqsa Intifada (28/9/2000).
- 297
children, (3.4%)
of the total number of prisoners, are still detained in Israeli
jails
- 25.2
% of child prisoners are
sick and in need of medical treatment.
- Hundreds of prisoners were arrested when they were children
and they are now over 18 are still detained inside Israeli
prisons.

99% of child prisoners have been subject
to torture especially put black & thick packet on the head, and

Health conditions:
- More than ( 140)
prisoners, who were arrested before Al-Aqsa Intifada, suffer
from bad health conditions, like the heart diseases , Meniscus
and Ophthalmic diseases.
- Nearly
) 1000 ) prisoners
suffer from chronic diseases , because they were arrested after
they had been injured and they did not receive any medical
treatment
Torture inside the
Israeli jails:
It is very rare that a detainee is not subject to a form of
torture. Many internationally prohibited methods of torture are
still being practiced against detainees. Many detainees have
been subject to more than one form of torture at the same time.

Martyrs of the National
Prisoner's Movement
All of the Palestinian prisoners were exposed to torture,
health negligence or even killed by the Israeli soldiers after
being arrested .Since the establishment of the Israeli prisons
(181) Palestinian
prisoners were killed by the Israelis, last example of that was
(Jwad Adel Abu Mgasib)
18 years old from (Dir-ALBALAH of
Gaza Strip) who was killed due to the health
neglecting on 28/7/2005 in (alnaqb prison) taking by
consideration that he was a child when he was arrested and he
was serving a sentence of 33 months , and also the
Arabic Syrian
prisoner (Hail Hussein Abu Zaid)
who served 20 years in Israeli jails lost his life due to
cancer disease (leukemia)
in Rmbam hospital / Haifa after being released by a decision of
the health committee of (IPS) because of his health situation
was very serious on 20/12/2004 and he died on 7/7/2005
